In October, we’re offering a crash course in the wines of Baden, one of Germany’s most dynamic wine regions. Baden’s location in the far south of Germany makes it possible to grow stellar Pinot Blanc (Weisser Burgunder), Pinot Gris (Grauer Burgunder) and Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), grapes that are more often associated with the warmer climates of France and Italy. The selection is rounded out with an example of Chasselas, a grape that was almost forgotten a generation ago. And don’t worry if you can’t order before the end of October. The selection will still be available in November.
November’s selection is six eye-opening Pinot Noirs that make the case for German red wine and would be perfect for Thanksgiving.
And in December, we’re offering a range of world-class, Champagne Method sparkling wines. These include wines made from 100% Riesling, a blanc de noirs that spends six years on the lees before release and a rare example of a rosé sparkling wine made entirely from Pinot Meunier.
In addition, you will also find a selection of Silvaner, an under-appreciated grape that makes thrilling dry white wines in the Franken (Franconia) region of Bavaria. These wines, from the famous Bürgerspital, in Würzburg, in their distinctive flask-shaped bottles, will make you remember 2022 as the year you discovered Silvaner.
And yes, there is also a selection of Riesling from several of Germany’s most prestigious producers…and there’s nothing sweet about any of them.
